Help My Mother Build A New Home
My mother, Zhethali Zhimomi, is 88 years old and lives in an isolated village in northeast India. For the past several months, she has experienced severe health issues. For a few weeks, we weren’t sure she would survive. India has been locked down due to Covid for quite a while and moving her to a larger city where she can receive healthcare isn’t an option. Even if conditions were better, she would choose to stay in her village. My father is buried there, and she has said many times that she chooses to die there.
Along with caring for my special needs sister, my mother still works on her farm every day. Recently, one of her pigs attacked her and injured her leg. She is still recovering from her injuries.
My husband and I send her money on a regular basis for food and other needs. However, we have a challenge to meet that requires the help of our friends and those who can empathize with our situation. My mother needs a new house.
Her current house is not livable. The tin roof leaks, the thatch walls are caving in, and the wood supporting beams are rotting. My mother has never lived in a house that did not have a dirt floor. She has never lived in a house that has a bathroom. Currently, she uses an outhouse in the woods.
As you can imagine, her recent illness and injury have severely limited her mobility. Having a livable home with an attached bathroom will make her life much easier and allow her to live out her days in relative comfort and security. It will also provide a higher quality of life for my sister.
Due to the impending monsoon season, we are planning to build the house sometime after the first of the year. Once the project begins, transferring the building supplies to the village will take much time and will be costly. We will contribute money toward the total cost, and any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Please know that any money you contribute will only be used for the construction of the house. We will continue to supply her other needs during this time.
God bless you all!
