Help my Mother Dafne Ward fight stomach cancer
Donation protected
Hello my name is Victor Ward, the third child of David and Dafne Ward. I’m making this fund page to help my mother who was diagnosed February 2022 with stage IV stomach cancer. Before she was diagnosed, she was the type of person who always helped those in need, even if they didn’t ask. She would feed, clothe, house and treat others like they were her own. I remember many instances over my childhood of many friends being informally adopted into our family. She treated them as her own children and still calls them son and daughter to this day. Nathan is the biggest example of that, he grew up with us since elementary school and we still see him on holidays and family get togethers. She has the biggest heart of anyone that I know and everyone that meets her notes what a kind and vivacious person she is.
My mom tried all of the limited treatment options available to her, but in the end they could only marginally prolong her life without much hope for living outside a year. In the middle of August, she was moved to hospice so that she could be made comfortable. Her strength was dwindling and treatment was no longer working the way we had hoped.Over the last month, my mom reaffirmed her faith by getting baptized at her church and reaffirmed her love by renewing wedding vows with my dad. We slowly began to grieve our impending loss as we knew it was only a matter of time. She continued to eat little, lose weight, and become less mobile, it was heartbreaking as she was a shining light in so many peoples lives and the pillar of our family.
On September 26th, my dad started to make some calls as a last ditch effort before we closed the chapter on this book. Serendipitously, through a new friend, he told my dad that his mother went through the exact same thing and advised of a private clinic in Arizona that specialized in combining modern and holistic techniques. He took his mother to the clinic and is now able to lead a qualitative life while they monitor her condition to make sure it doesn’t come back. After hearing the story, my dad called that day to see if the clinic could take my mom as she was not expected to live much longer. We waited on the edge our seats all day because if we got the go ahead we were leaving immediately. He called my brother and sister and they were packed and ready to go while I went to get the trailer with my dad. We got a call at 7pm and we were on the road at 9pm that night. We knew we were taking a leap of faith, but we were going to take any chance that could help improve my mom’s condition. We drove 40hrs straight from Michigan to Arizona, only stopping to get gas, grab snacks, and switch out on driving. We left Monday evening, arrived Wednesday morning, and had a consultation with the clinic within a few hours of arriving. She has since begun treatment and we are starting to see a few improvements. We are trying to reserve judgement, but we are hopeful that we are on the right track. Since this is a private clinic and out of state, there are a lot of costs surrounding this endeavor so any financial assistance is most appreciated so that we can focus on my mom’s treatment.
