Help my niece Kassy survive

Hi, my name is Kristoffer and I am doing this fundraising for my niece Kassy who lives in the Philippines.

Kassandra Eva Marie V. Legarde - she’s my beautiful and charming niece. She turned 4 years old last April and have been bringing light and joy to our family. She loves to bake, sing and dance. Smiling is her most special skill. Her dream of becoming a doctor is always seen through when she shows empathy, care and thoughtfulness to her cousins and friends. Most of all, she is respectful, kind and loving daughter to her parents and to all the people around her.

A week ago she started to feel under the weather. She had high fever for the first two days and started to have a hard time breathing. Our cousin Leah, who is her Pediatrician doctor suggested right away to bring her to the hospital. With her critical condition, she was placed in the ICU right away.

Its her 8th day today in the ICU. 2 bacterias and a virus was seen in her blood. She developed a Respiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV) that caused severe Pneumonia and a secondary bacterial infection. Today, it progressed to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Her lungs is severely affected and there is already some effect seen on her heart. Hence, She was intubated. Medicines, antibiotics and immunity booster have been administered but nothing seems to work. There has been no signs of improvement.

Today, The doctors are planning to hook her to ECMO - a lung and heart machine. This is a lung support therapy or mechanism that will add oxygen to the blood and pumps it to the body just like the heart does. Its like a dialysis machine. Only this one puts oxygen in the blood and pumps it back to the body while dialysis only cleans the blood. THIS IS THE LAST RESORT to save Kassy.

It had been very hard for all of us in the family especially to my brother Jako and sister in law Elaine - parents of Kassy. A traumatizing and stressful situation that no one can bare but we all still are staying positive as we know Kassy will live to tell her story and testify of the miracle she will experience.

As of today, their running bill is 1.1M Philippine pesos ( $23,913 ) and with the ECMO machine it will cost them a ballpark figure of 5M pesos ( $108,695). My brother and sister in law’s health Insurance will only cover a small amount. They are in need of help.

I am knocking on your humble hearts to ask for any donation that can make my brother feel secured and take out a huge burden on his shoulders that Kassy will be able to stay in the hospital under the best care of her doctors until she can go back home. We are all praying hard that this unfortunate experience for my brother’s family will conclude with excellent results.
