As a lot of you know, my family has been THROUGH IT the past few years but especially my dad, with some very significant medical issues. In February of 2021, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure after a procedure the preceding November. He underwent a quadruple bypass with mitral valve repair; however, he still required a heart transplant, which he received in September of 2021. Despite those challenges, he was able to return to work and regain as much of a typical life as possible.
In November of this year, he noticed a spot on the bottom of his left foot and, despite seeking treatment, was incorrectly told it was a benign lipoma and was waiting for a podiatry appointment in December when it became very clear it was something far more serious. On Tuesday, November 28, he went to the ER, at which time they told him it was actually a diabetic ulcer. Two days later, on Thursday, November 30, his left leg was amputated below the knee.
He will require the use of a wheelchair the remainder of his life (even if he is able to get a prosthesis). He needed to have amedical stairlift installed and they also need to have their shower changed to a walk-in. These three things ALONE add up to just under $14,000.
My dad has been through more medical issues in his life than anyone I have ever known, starting at a very young age, and he has NEVER let it stop him. He has always worked and provided for our family, He was working up until his transplant and was able to return to work after. However, it seems unlikely he will be able to go back again. He is extremely proud, yet also humble, and is allowing me to ask for help on his behalf. We would greatly, greatly appreciate any help. Thank you and here's to a New Year.
