Help my parents Thom & Janet fight cancer together!

Hi, my name is Janell Blasco and I’m the daughter of Thom & Janet Brownlee. I am here to help my parents because it’s the least I can do for them. I’m not even sure how this is possible but my parents are both battling cancer simultaneously.

My dad, Thom Brownlee an avid golfer, a fun Pappy to his two loving grandchildren and an awesome Dad and loving husband was diagnosed with a rare form of metastatic prostate cancer in October of 2022. He has and continues to go through chemotherapy, hormone treatments and the placement of a colostomy bag which saved his life.

Since his diagnosis he was able to get the colostomy bag removed, but he was recently hospitalized due to pneumonia and a collapsed lung. He is still in the game and never gives up! He now has to use oxygen and this is new for him since he has always been the care taker of my mom for the past 20 years.

My mom, Janet Brownlee, the crafty and savvy loving Grammy, Mom and wife has battled chronic pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, and GI issues over the past 20 years just to name a few.

This past summer she noticed something on her tongue and went to an ENT to have it checked out. She had a biopsy and on July 23rd my mom got the diagnosis of tongue cancer. Due to its aggressive nature, she quickly had a partial glossectomy, which is surgery for the partial removal of her tongue on August 7th. She also had to have a trach, a feeding tube, a neck dissection to remove lymph nodes along with a partial removal of her upper arm to help rebuild the tongue.

She had to learn how to eat, drink, breathe and talk again. She is now getting radiation treatments and has another tough battle ahead of her.

Now that my parents are both battling cancer simultaneously I can’t keep this to myself.

My parents will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this coming April. They are truly the most loving and selfless people. Medical bills, unfinished home projects and monthly bills just name a few of the things that they need help with. I am hoping that lessening the burden of financial woes can keep them positive and focus on their healing, together. I have also revised to mention that they are now in need of a caregiver to help care for them when I cannot be there.
