Rio’s wheelchair rugby challenge - the road ahead
Donation protected
When I first saw team Canada play in the Pan American Games in 2015 in Toronto with my family, I was truly inspired. I started living with my dad in Tokyo when I was just fourteen years old in the Spring of 2016, and in that summer, we purchased our first wheelchair rugby chair.
I started to compete as part of a team in Chiba, Japan and founded the first wheelchair rugby team based in Tokyo called the Tokyo Arrows . In September of 2018 we practiced with the Toronto team and in October 2018 were very lucky to be invited to Misawa, Japan to train with Team Canada members.
In addition to participating in the Japan Nationals, and various offsite seminars held for developing players in Japan, my Canadian team(s) placed fourth in the 2019 Durham Para sport Games, and first in the Vancouver Invitationals in March 2019.
Recently I passed a rigorous tryout session and became part of Team Canada's developmental team!
Bottom line: I've grown (a lot!) in the past two years and now my current chair is too small for me - often the sides of my jersey rub the the tires and in sharp turns, I can burn the skin on the side of my stomach.
The funds I raise through this campaign will go to towards the purchase of a new Melrose offensive chair as shown here .
My deadline for funding is June 30 2019.
Thank you for your support!!
