Help my Sis and Niece through family tragedy

I never imagined that I would need to start a GoFundMe page, and wished I didn't have to, but here I am.

As I write this, my brother-in-law is laying in a hospital bed after undergoing a long and complicated emergency brain surgery. Last week, late in the evening, Mario (my brother-in-law) was suddenly and brutally attacked while trying to find the family's lost dog. We found out that the unprovoked assault was committed by a neighbor who had already served time in prison for violent acts. During the attack, Mario fell and hit his head on the pavement. We do not know what Mario's prognosis is, except that the doctors now tell us that Mario will most likely live. We do know that the injury to his brain is severe, and that he will most likely require nurse care, speech and physical therapy, and a bunch of other things that aren't even on our radar yet.

The medical bills are going to be enormous, especially the ones not covered by insurance. The loss of continued wages (from my sister, not working while being at the hospital and Mario’s inability to work permanently) is big. My sister, Ladyane, and her 11-year-old daughter are in a whirlpool of pain and sadness already, and just want Mario to be the same as he was before. We are doing our best to support my sister and niece emotionally and financially, but the needs are so great that I'm reaching out to all of you during this very scary time.
