Help My Sister Heal: A Mother Battling Medical Challenges

This past year has been an unimaginable challenge for my sister, Samilca (Sam), a talented UX researcher and designer with a degree in architecture. My name is Camila, and I’m reaching out to share her story because I’ve seen firsthand how incredibly hardworking and resilient she is. Sam has always fought to give her children the best life possible. But right now, she needs help to make it through.

She’s been battling pancreatitis, a condition that causes constant, severe pain. She’s also under observation for a pancreatic tumor, which requires frequent doctor visits and expensive imaging to monitor. On top of that, she has a hiatal hernia and severe reflux esophagitis, classified as Grade C, which has led to chronic pain and difficulty managing her daily life. These conditions have resulted in multiple hospitalizations, biopsies, and the removal of gastric polyps.

The next step in her treatment involves a gastric bypass surgery to repair the hiatal hernia and address the ongoing damage caused by severe reflux and esophagitis. Unfortunately, Sam is facing this without insurance and will need to cover the costs out of pocket.

In September, she was laid off and lost her health insurance, adding even more financial stress to an already overwhelming situation. Despite applying for unemployment several times, she has been denied. Now, as a mother, she’s left juggling mounting medical expenses, daily costs, and providing for her children, all while dealing with constant physical pain.

What inspires me most about Sam is her resilience. Even with all these challenges, she hasn’t given up. She’s been applying for jobs non-stop, determined to rebuild and provide stability for her family.

Right now, I’m asking for your help to support my sister through this incredibly tough time. Donations will go toward:

• Medical expenses: hospital visits, treatments, medications, imaging for her pancreatic tumor, and the upcoming gastric bypass surgery.
