Please Help My Sister with Art College Tuiton & Expenses

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Brittany and my sister Lorelei is an amazing artist. I created this page to help my sister with the financial stress college brings with it. My hope is that by lifting this part from her, she can focus all her energy on creating and growing into this next chapter of her life. I am so excited for her!

She was accepted into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She will be moving to Chicago in August to begin her BFA program with emphasis in Visual Arts Painting & Drawing and also an Art History Thesis.

My sister's remaining need is $50,000 each year. This amount is after the application of the scholarship she received from SAIC and the financial aid packaged. Please, anything you can give to support Lorelei's next step on her journey as an artist, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! Of course Lorelei will also be ecstatic for your help!!

She is amazingly talented and I know she will be an extremely successful artist. Although art school is not a requirement to be an artist, she always planned on going to college and has dreamed of art school specifically, since she was 12 years old. At that time, she researched schools around the country and after looking into a few in more detail, she chose SAIC as her dream school, because she liked what it had to offer in the way of courses and opportunities. SAIC is one of the top Art Universities in both the country and the world.

For my sister, attending SAIC will help build a new community for her, give her new opportunities to work with renowned artists, have internships, allow her to study abroad with other artists, explore new and different techniques, probe other art forms and experience the vast culture the City of Chicago has to offer.

Lorelei loves theater and also acting, photography and film. Because SAIC is in the heart of the loop, her dorm will be across the street from the famous Chicago Theater and around the corner from the amazing theater district. She is fascinated with the culture and architecture of the late 1800s and the early 1900s. The buildings and neighborhoods in Chicago will give her so many opportunities to take stunning photographs. I am so excited to see what this experience will bring her.

COVID hit her hard in her freshman and sophomore years of high school, but as everything began to open up Lorelei began to be involved in many projects. Unfortunately, our mom became disabled at this same time and that created a huge impact on our family financially. The money that was being set aside for Lorelei's college fund had to be applied to bills instead. Our dad is also disabled as a result of an SUV crushing him in early 2016, so he is on a very fixed income as well.

Lorelei is a truly remarkable person and student! She graduated Magna Cum Laude, was asked to present the graduation speech representing the Media Arts & Design Academy and was invited into the National Honor Society, beginning her sophomore year. Her senior year she was awarded Thespian of the Year for the International Thespian Society. SAIC awarded her the Distinguished Merit Scholarship, which is the second-highest scholarship the university bestows, and it covers 40% of tuition.

Although the scholarship she received is amazing and the additional financial aid is also extremely helpful, these together still don't cover the rest of her tuition, housing, board, campus medical insurance, student transit card and course fees, etc. Lorelei is consistently applying for outside scholarships, to avoid putting herself into student loan debt. However, this hasn't panned out yet. She keeps applying and will continue to apply while in college. She joked the other day that she has written more essays for scholarships than she wrote in junior high and high school combined. My sister has also spent the past year working to save money to cover her living expenses beyond the set fees and the calculated food (board). The dorm rooms have a kitchenette, so she will be making many of her own meals.

Any amount you're willing to contribute is greatly appreciated! If you are unable to contribute this time, please share this on your social media pages. It would mean the world to us!

With sincere appreciation
