Help My Stepdad Fight for His Heart

Hi everyone,

I want to take a moment to tell you about my stepdad; the most incredible, selfless, and loving man. He’s got a heart of gold (even if his current one isn’t cooperating), a wicked sense of humor, and a deep love for salsa music. He’s the guy who can light up a room with his soft-spoken yet quick-witted personality, a die-hard sports fan who always roots for the underdog, and the best husband and stepdad we could ever ask for.

A 6’2” Puerto Rican with the thickest Hoboken, Jersey accent you’ll ever hear, he’s always been our rock. But right now, he’s in the fight of his life. His heart is failing, and while he’s battling with everything he has, the road ahead is uncertain.

For the past month, my mom has been staying in hotels just to be near him every day. She’s living off hospital food, juggling life’s daily challenges while navigating this overwhelming journey with him. The bills are stacking up quickly; medical expenses, travel, lodging, and everything in between. And as much as we wish we didn’t have to ask, our hospital social worker reminded us that sometimes, we have to lean on our village.

So here we are, asking for your support. Anything, truly anything, helps. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or a prayer, we are grateful beyond words. We just want to make sure he has everything he needs while waiting for a new heart and, hopefully, a second chance at life.

UPDATE!!! 4/27/2025

We are overwhelmed with gratitude to share some incredible news: he got his heart ❤️. The surgery went well, and he’s now recovering, showing us once again just how strong and stubborn (in the best way) he is. 

This journey isn’t over yet. Recovery will take time, and there will be ups and downs but today, we are celebrating this unbelievable gift of a second chance at life. We just want to thank every single one of you who has supported us, shared our story, donated, sent prayers, or simply held us in your thoughts. Your kindness has carried us through some of the darkest moments, and we are forever grateful.
