Chavez High School—the school where I’ll be teaching this coming year—has over 2,000 students. And essentially no library.
I’m not kidding. Just watch the video above.
I’ll be teaching the freshmen with the lowest reading scores, and I’ve got a big vision for cultivating a crazy love of reading. My goal is audacious: that each of my students will read 42 books this year. So I’m trying to build a badass classroom library. My goal is to raise $4,200 before school starts on August 3 so that I can start buying books for students from day 1.
While we’re in distance learning, I’m going to have the books delivered directly to students’ homes. After students have read the books, they’ll return them and then they’ll become a part of our classroom library.
Can you pitch in? Every dollar you give will go directly towards buying books that my students want.
