Hello my name is Fern. My 16 year old son, Loren, and his best friend were brutally attacked by a mentally deranged man upon leaving an all ages concert in Arcata, CA.

His temporal artery was slashed and is irreparable. He faces random left side nerve damage to his forehead, brow, eyelid and cheek. Along with being permanently scarred from the top of his head down to his jawline, he also will need to learn how to come to terms with the trauma he has endured. But, yes at least hes alive!!

Loren is in his second year of welding at his high school, his chosen career path, but since the attack and his return to school, wearing the secured hood protection for any length of time causes him headaches and discomfort.

Loren is a great kid with a good heart and, thank God, has our familys sense of humor. He's getting thru this but it's a battle now to let his guard down, and I can tell, that after that night, his innocence was lost. I can't fix it, and as a mom, it kills me.
