Help My Trans & Nonbinary Kids Flee Florida for Safety

My trans and nonbinary children are not safe here in Florida. With the Trump election win, we have decided to move our family to NY as soon as possible. We are aiming for March of 2025 due to winter weather and hoping it takes more than a couple months for the Trump administration to dismantle the constitution.

I was born in Florida. All three of my children were as well. We moved to Michigan in 2015, but made the move back down in 2021 when my mother needed help to care for my grandmother who was on Hospice care with dementia. My grandmother passed just before Christmas last year.

My children do not feel safe in Florida. They do not consider this their home. My oldest has recently come out as trans, and my youngest has identified as nonbinary for a few years now. These kids were glued to the TV on election night. Watching the light in their eyes go out as they watched the country vote against their existence killed me. I would do anything to keep these kids safe.

My best friend who lives in NY is able to give us a place to land for a few months to give us time to save and get our footing once we arrive. My husband works remotely, so we will be able to save his income. I will have to find work. We currently live paycheck to paycheck with the insane cost of living here in Florida. We will be downsizing as much as possible before the move. I estimate it will cost us 5-6k in moving expenses. This includes Uhaul rental, gas for our vehicles and the uhaul, hotel costs, and storage fees. We will be tackling the labor of the move ourselves.

I am not one to ask for help… I am usually the helper. I have spent the last few months on TikTok giving my voice to the Harris Walz campaign, democratic candidates down ballot, and Red States For Harris. I tried… Now I need help to flee with my kids.
