Help My Ukrainian Family to Get Through the War
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Liliya, and I am raising funds for my family in Ukraine afflicted by war. My mother, my aunt, my sister, her husband, and their daughter were forced to flee from their city of Kharkiv, which has been heavily bombed by the Russian invasion army since the beginning of war.
For the first several days, they had to run to a bomb shelter several times a day and night and even spend nights there. When I tried calling my sister, she could not pick up as she constantly had to be on her phone trying to determine through messaging with people around the city when the next bombing will start. She had to be able to get to the shelter in time—our mother is in her 70s and cannot move fast due to health issues. They did not want to leave Kharkiv where they spent their entire lives. As the bombing intensified day after day, their area of the city was hit especially hard, indiscriminately of civilian lives. This photo shows a building hit by a Russian missile on the very street they lived. On March 4, they had to flee, leaving everything behind. Despite going through war zone, in snow, they were able to make it west, deeper into Ukraine, where there is no bombing. Yet. Now they are staying at their distant relative’s property in the countryside, with no heat, but happy to be able to sleep without waking up in terror to another explosion or siren, without being afraid that the next bomb will find them.
They do not know what their next step will be and where they will have to go next as the war rolls into that area. They are now without any income and without their belongings apart from the bare minimum they were able to carry with them. I am asking for donations to help them to get through this horrible time. I am really hoping they decide and will be able to come to the US so we can take care of them here, but as of now they want to stay in the country they know and love, still hopeful, despite the war, to get their lives back. Thank you for helping them survive.
