Help my Ukrainian friend stay warm this winter
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Anya McGuckin, and I am fundraising for my friend Irina Shamray. I met Irina in college in Saratov, Russia, where we studied linguistics for five years. Shortly after finishing college, Irina moved to Ukraine, where her mother's family is from. Now Irina lives in Khmelnytskyi in southwest Ukraine with her husband, Andrey and their three kids. When Russia attacked Ukraine, Irina's family spent months in the basement of their home with limited access to the outside to get food. Khmelnytskyi region was not targeted like other parts of Ukraine, but everyday life is still very tough. After recent Russian bombing, the Ukrainian energy system collapsed. Irina says that they get electricity only for a few hours per day. Irina's family relies on gas to heat their house, but the Ukrainian government has warned people that over the winter, there will be no gas available. To heat Irina's house, they need to install an alternative heating system - a wood-fired boiler, which costs $1690. For her family, this sum is the equivalent of nine months' combined salary. They cannot afford it. Can you please help me to collect this amount to keep this family warm over the winter months?
