Help my uncle Nilson and his family rebuild after flood
Donation protected
The southernmost state in Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, is facing the major flooding of its history and unfortunately as most of Rio Grande do Sul, my uncle Nilson Kegler's family, located in São Leopoldo, was also heavily affected by the tragedy, and lost everything inside their home.
My uncle lives with his wife and my cousin, Pietro, who has a several level of autism. My uncle is retired, considering years ago he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which affected his vision, and since Pietro was born he has been dedicating himself to take care of his son full-time. They have been living on a minimum wage and government benefits due to my cousin's special needs and this for sure won't be enough for them to restart their lives and buy all the necessary appliances for their home.
We know that many families are going through the same situation, and in fact my grandma's and godfather houses, which are right next door, were also affected. However, all of the efforts right now are going towards my uncle Nilson, who will need the most help.
The water levels are still rising (already reached 17ft) due to the ongoing rain, people are evacuated for an unknown period of time. We expect to have lost everything.
People have been comparing this disaster to Hurricane Katrina, which could give you some sort of understanding. More than 1.5M people have been affected, 417 municipalities out of 497 were damaged.
Hopefully we'll be able to go through this tragedy and rebuild their home. Any cent you can donate will be a lot for this family.
We count on you!
