Nadia O’Brien cancer battle UPDATE:
Donation protected
Update from Nadia.
April 15th I received the most terrifying, unexpected news. A 12cm mass was found in my abdomen after a CT scan. After a few more scans, an MRI and a painful biopsy, I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Follicular Lymphoma. Grade level 1. It’s a slow moving cancer, they think I’ve had it for years. It didn’t spread, bone marrow is clean, organs look great, blood work has been good, I haven’t had alarming symptoms. only 3 lymph nodes are affected and they are right near each other. My doctor was going to wait for treatment but the large mass is close to an artery and she felt shrinking it now would save me from a lot of problems later.
By May 14th I was starting chemo. After 1 chemo treatment and 3 targeted treatments, the mass is already shrinking, it’s now just below 9cm. This particular Lymphoma is treated more like a chronic illness because it’s not curable at the moment but very treatable.
Physically I feel good although the chemo does make me feel so sick for 3 days after. My arms feel weak, and I get winded pretty quick and have fatigue. Mentally I have good days and bad days. But I’m going to be ok.
I want to thank everyone for all the thoughts, prayers, donations, your time, calls, texts and messages. Everyone who has talked to me during my bad days, who helped me stay positive and optimistic. It has made this process easier for us all. My Husband and kids have been on this emotional roller coaster with me but have been such great help for me.
