Battling Leukemia (AML) - Help Nadia & Her Family!

Hello everyone!

 

This fundraiser is for my fiancé, Nadia Alcaraz Ochoa. Nadia is one of the most thoughtful, selfless, and inspiring individuals that I have ever met. She has earned university degrees and completed graduate programs in Mexico, the University of Texas, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Nadia’s academic endeavors and accomplishments were fueled by her mission to inspire her students to dream big, set goals, and work tirelessly to grow. Nadia has taught English as a second language in China, Germany, and the United States. She has had a positive impact on countless lives. Beyond her academic and career accomplishments, Nadia and I were scheduled to be married in 2022. We've been happily consumed with our day-to-day lives and wedding plans when all of a sudden our lives were turned upside down.

 

Although Nadia is young and vibrant, she has been battling symptoms of fatigue, headaches, and bruising. Nadia was cautious and sought medical attention. After a series of tests, she was just diagnosed with a rare and fast spreading type of Leukemia (AML) https://www.cancer.org/cancer/acute-myeloid-leukemia/about/what-is-aml.html. This cancer has attacked her aggressively and required immediate hospitalization, blood transfusions, platelets, plasma, and she was put on oxygen. Nadia began her first course of chemotherapy the first week of December, however, the doctors anticipate multiple courses that could span a 6-8 month period and will most likely result with a bone marrow transplant.

 

Due to the aggressive nature of this illness and the constant attention that Nadia will require, we’re fundraising for medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, a private nurse/caretaker, and extra funds to cover her living expenses as Nadia’s road to recovery will be long and she will not be able to work for an extended period of time.

 

Although we’re facing this extreme challenge, we’re optimistic that Nadia has the strength to overcome this illness and continue to make a positive impact on the lives of her family, friends, colleagues, students, and anyone that crosses her path. Our goals have shifted to fighting for Nadia's health and well-being by any means necessary. We appreciate your prayers, support, and generosity.
