Help Nala Avoid Cancer: Support Her Eye Surgery
Donation protected
Hello my name is Michelle, and this is my beloved cat, Nala.
Around one year ago we began to notice a change within her right eye. It was developing large dark spots and when looking back on old photos we had noticed that these spots have been showing up over the course of several years.
Last year we took her to an animal ophthalmologist who diagnosed her condition as “undiagnosed masses”, or Iris Melanosis a benign condition of in increased pigmentations in the iris. He was not too worried about it being iris melanoma (cancer) at the time and advised that we come back in a year to re-evaluate.
Well, a year rolled around and the pigmentation in her eye spread and grew darker. We brought her back to the ophthalmologist who explained that considering the rate at which the pigments are spreading it may not be cancerous now but it will be.
He advised that we wait to check back in 6 months to a year or to go through with an eye Enucleation (removing the entire eye).
If we wait for another year, he could not guarantee that this won’t spread and there are no safe, full proof tests that can tell us if this is cancer. Iris melanoma is not widely studied or understood in the vet world and I am very lucky we have a vet who specializes in eye care.
As many of you know, Nala is my best friend and she is only 10 years old. I love her far too much to wait for what can possibly develop into a severe terminal illness. From what I understand, once the cancer reaches her blood stream it is essentially unstoppable as it will be carried to other vital organs.
Nala is my world and even making this go fund me is extremely difficult for me. I don’t want my best friend to have cancer. If removing her eye can help us determine if it is cancer and if it has spread, we have a much higher chance at saving her life.
