Both my mother, Nancy, and I lost our jobs in the food industry a year ago due to the COVID Pandemic. My Mom is 84 years old and a three time cancer survivor who has spent 40 years working tirelessly as a dedicated volunteer both for the Little League and our local church.
She has been a community volunteer for many years giving her time, energy and love to those in need being a role model for many including myself. Her dedication led me to be a coach for many different teams as well as a YMCA and community volunteer for over 30 years. She has fostered the importance of working hard and giving back. COVID has robbed us both.
As of March 31, 2021, the Governor's moratorium on evictions will be ending and the owners of our apartment facility have filed for a court order to evict us from our apartments. We have done our best to make ends meet this past year, but sadly we are at a crossroads. COVID has devastated so many and we have not been spared. Both of our unemployment benefits are coming to an end...(and in my case ended months ago).
We have applied to every organization possible for economic relief and back rent support and have been denied by every organization that still has funding left. We are currently looking at other rentals to try and find a solution but have no money to put down for a security or to pay for the move itself. My Mom at 84 loved to go to work each day because it served in two ways; it helped with rent and expenses and gave her purpose. Both have been impacted beyond words. We will both be able to start working again but not until May and that will be a little to little, little to late... Our housing options are limited and its virtually impossible for us to get caught up on back rent. I assure you this is the last thing that either of us want, as we are both givers and have built our lives serving others. Unfortunately we need help.
All donations will be put towards back rent and to help cover a down payment on a cheaper apartment that she and I can share while we get back on our feet. I am primarily asking for help so that I know my mother can focus on her health and well being as these past months have been devastating. The stress the court papers caused her is unreal and we have exhausted all options. We know that COVID has affected so many people and the world is struggling in so many ways.
