Help Narelle Kick Breast Cancer’s butt

Hi everyone,

My name is Patricia Foley, my niece Narelle Burns was diagnosed about 8 weeks ago with HER2 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. This has come as a complete shock to her and the family as there is no family history of this disease. The Treatment plan is going to be a little longer than we had hoped 12-18mths now but with your help she will kick this cancers butt.

She has been receiving support from people in the community and groups she has begun to talk with online who are also going through this.

Narelle is no longer able to engage in her part time employment, but is hopeful that by mid next year, she may be able to return part-time work. The chemo she is currently having is very hard on her; she just needs to rest and not worry about work.

Her treatment is taking place at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and she is grateful to be able to receive their expert care. She is also very appreciative to have been accepted into a mainly funded Clinical Trial, starting in January and lasting 6 months. During the 6 months of this trial, she will receive an added drug to assist her recovery.

The drug is called PERTUZUMAB. The cost of this drug is $6,240 per month for 6 months. The drug company pays for 5 months of this trial (which is so wonderful), and the patient must pay for the first month to begin treatment.

The family is trying every avenue to get payment for this drug and help Narelle and Matthew through a challenging time.  They went through so much during COVID with job losses and business collapse and just when they were rebuilding cancer came knocking and sent them backwards again.

We appreciate that it’s an expensive time of year for everyone.
