Help Nate Recover from a Devastating Cycling Accident

On Wednesday August 7th, Nate was doing what he loves—cycling—when a devastating accident occurred. He was struck by a flatbed truck, leaving him with serious injuries, including facial fractures that require customized plates and the need for a tracheostomy. He was emergently transported to KU Medical Center to receive urgent medical care.

Story:

Nate is a devoted husband to Julie and the proud father of two amazing daughters. As his cycling coach, I’ve seen firsthand his passion for riding. Nate once told me that one of his goals was to be a part of a cycling team—to belong to something bigger in the cycling world. He wanted to ride, not just for himself, but with a community.

While his journey to joining a formal team has been interrupted, the truth is, Nate is already a part of something bigger. The cycling community is tight-knit, and once you’re a cyclist, you’re part of the team. We stick together, support each other, and never let a teammate ride alone.

Nate's injuries are severe, requiring multiple surgeries, including the placement of customized plates to repair his facial fractures. He was in the ICU, now in a stepdown unit, but his spirit remains strong, and we know he’s fighting with all his strength.
