Help Nate the rescue cat get the medical he needs
Tax deductible
Nate is an older kitten who was rescued from the streets of Oakland. He was taken to the Vet for a check up, shots and neuter, then went to a foster, so he could be assessed and worked with, prior to going into adoption.
Nate had bad diarrhea, and after parasites and other potential causes were ruled out by tests, he was put on a limited ingredient diet, to see if he had food sensitivities.
The Vet came to believe he had an immune-mediated condition called Juvenile Proliferative Gingivitis. This is a condition that develops in cats between four and seven months of age. Nate was around six months at the time. For months, an aggressive regimen was followed, to prevent pockets in the gums.
This is very hard to maintain, and often the cats with this condition end up needing all their teeth removed at two years of age.
Unfortunately, despite the foster's commitment to caring for Nate's dental needs, his dental health deteriorated, over the months. The Vet recommended a full mouth extraction. Part of the work has been done already, and will be completed in stages.
Nate is doing well, eating soft foods, and will hopefully have the rest of the work done soon, then be able to go into adoption, with no worries about an impending major medical crisis in a year or two.
The total cost for the entire medical is over $2,000. We are hoping to raise $1,000.
We are thankful for any donations towards Nate's medical!
