Nate is an amazing man who throws his time and energy into his work as a flying director for live theatrical productions. He began his career with ZFX Inc., the California-based company that helped rig actress Cathy Rigsby as Peter Pan on Broadway.

Nate now works as an independent contractor helping companies all over the country as a designer, builder, crew chief and flying director, as well as consulting operators on how to fly, special effects, working with the equipment, choreography and proper flying techniques. Nate's motto is to always keep his flyers safe when they are on the stage and in the air.

He first came to MYART in 1999 as our fly director on our production of The Wizard of Oz. Nate always has a special way of relating to our flyers, helping them to feel safe and encouraging them to fly and be free. He has always brought his A game, and loves working with the staff members who are passionate about their craft and the kids who tug at his heart.

Whether he’s wiring hoists and drives, or troubleshooting automation with clients on location, Nate cherishes every opportunity to help a show realize an artistic vision. But it's the amount of meticulous time and patience he offers that sets Nate apart backstage.

He is the definition of a GIVER.

On April 27, 2018, he was involved in a stage accident during our opening children's theatre performance of Peter Pan that crushed his ankle. The paramedics were called while the show went on, as Nate called out directions for the flyers and fly crew through excruciating pain. He ended up being transferred to the Los Alamitos Medical Center and went right into surgery where doctors placed 6 external pins to put his ankle back together. That surgery alone cost more than $40,000.

Nate still needs a second extensive surgery that involves plates, screws and pins to repair his ankle. The resulting injuries will prevent him from working for quite a while. Because he is an independent contractor, and because of the nature of the accident, MYART's insurance, as well as the school's insurance, are not liable for any medical expenses.

To make matters worse, Nate's insurance company is a fraudulent business that contracted with him under false pretenses. So he does not have ANY insurance.

Nate is loved by so many! A donation of anything at all, large or small, would be greatly appreciated and put to good use, since he can't work. This guy deserves a break! PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE THIS PAGE! Thank you!
