Help Support Our Family During This Difficult Time
As a harm reduction activist and community organizer here in Louisville, I've heard from so many people about the limitations and injustices of our legal system. Now my family faces that struggle.
In May 2024, my brother Nathan found himself in an impossible situation where he needed to protect himself and his friend.
My brother was immediately arrested and given a staggering $250k cash bail. With hard work, we managed to reduce that to $35k.
It took almost everything we had left, but we were able to make bail on July 8th. However, he will have to wait until next May at the earliest for his court date, leaving him in limbo without trial and unable to provide for his family.
My brother is a beloved father, respected co-worker, and veteran of the National Guard. This year-long wait means he's losing his job and ability to support his children, and means to defend himself, all while we try to keep our family together.
Like so many of you, we don't have the resources to do this on our own—especially after the unexpected death of our dad on June 1st. His loss has left a gaping hole in our hearts.
This has left our mom and myself trying to help navigate the court system and family responsibilities. Our mom is retired and lives on a fixed income, which is now supporting a household. The toll this experience has taken on her mental health is visible and unimaginable.
We are out of options. We need help.
I am now taking things into my own hands, humbly asking for that help on behalf of my family.
Any funds raised will be managed by myself and go directly to paying bills, lawyer costs, and supporting my three young nieces and nephew. Your help would mean the world to us as we navigate this challenging journey and prioritize our mental health during this trying time. Thank you for considering supporting our family.
