Help Ndola Lions School for the Visually Impaired

My name is Kimaya Kanda, and I am a student of South Forsyth High School, USA. I would like to share a cause that is very close to me and my family. We have been associated with the Ndola Lions School for the Visually Impaired in Zambia for many years, and supporting individuals with challenges to become independent and active members of society.

 

The School was established in 1974, and been a home for over 130 students with special needs. The pupils have varying degree of sight impairment caused by diseases(such as measles and glaucoma), albinism and accidents. Students attend five days of school every week, and participate in variety of activities such as gardening, animal care, singing, sports and debates. The Ndola Lions School for the Visually Impaired falls under the Ministry of Education. The government provides a monthly grant, but it only covers 1/3 of the monthly expenses for food and running all the daily activities.

 

There are many things that the school needs that would enhance the students’ quality of life, but the overwhelming necessity is food with the second priority being Braille supplies along with sports equipment and expanding the playground to enable the children to experience fun and exercise.

 

I am seeking any donations that you could contribute to support these young, motivated and talented individuals to support themselves in future, and be responsible citizens of the world. The donations will be used in food, provisioning of Braille supplies.
