Help Needed For John Northern, Sr.
Donation protected
As some of you know, John Northern needs a liver transplant. John has been making trips back and forth to Duke Medical Hospital which is about 2 hours from his home. John has been fighting liver problems for the last year and a half and on his last visit to Duke he and his family were told that his liver is at the stage where he needs to be put on the transplant list. Hopefully, this transplant will take place in the next few months. After the transplant he will remain in the hospital for 7-10 days.
Right now his life is at a standstill. Because of his liver problems, he also has a condition known as acites. This causes his belly to blow up and fill with fluid. When this happens, it is difficult for John to manage and anyone who knows him knows he can't sit still. To give him relief from this condition he has to have the fluid drained and he has this done twice a week.
The purpose of this fundraiser is for help with aftercare. He and his parents and other caregivers will need to stay near the hospital for at least a month to make sure there are no complications from the transplant. He won't be able to go home until they know his body is not going to reject the new liver. This is costly and Johns insurance does not cover these expenses.
2 years ago,John moved in with his parents to take care of them. Vera and Gene are now taking care of him.
John is a loving grandfather, know as Pop-pop, to 4 beautiful grandchildren. He would like to be able to enjoy them and all the pleasures that grandchildren bring.
Although, he is a living, breathing man, he is not enjoying life. If the transplant is successful, he can go on and enjoy life, his family and friends for many more years.
With help, John can hope to live again.
Gratefully, the family and friends of John Northern.
