Help Neva Have Time to Heal

Donation protected
After raising 2 children by herself and struggling to make ends meet for 17 years, Neva's life was finally taking a turn for the better. She has always worked a full-time job, but there always seemed to be too much month at the end of the money. 15 years ago, Neva was awarded $17 a month in child support for both children. (He's hasn't paid his child support in years, but that's another story.) Neva enrolled in college and graduated from NDSCS in 2021 and is 2 semesters away from a bachelor's degree at the University of North Dakota. She worked a full-time job, while also going to school full-time.

In 2022, the company she was working for suddenly closed without notice. After several months of job searching, she finally landed a job that would actually pay the bills and provided benefits for her and the kids.

Then, as it sometimes does, life happened. Neva was diagnosed with Adenomyosis at 34 years old. The pain is so bad, that she struggles to finish the day at her job. The doctor informed her that she would require surgery to relieve the pain. Adenomyosis is a form of endometriosis. She tries not to let the kids see her cry in pain, so she cries herself to sleep at night. The surgery requires an 8-12 week recovery period. (FMLA will not cover the bills at home.)

To make matters worse, the property management company recently raised her rent to an unsustainable rate of $1800 a month for a single parent who receives no public assistance. She also has to pay all of her own utilities. She chose to terminate the lease when it expires. She and the kids have to be out of their home by 08/26/2024. They are moving to a more affordable apartment by choice - there is no other choice.

Neva's family has always supported and helped her and the kids in every way that we can - emotionally, financially, and physically. Neva needs help, more help than we can give her right now. She needs you and me and us to help her through this struggle. She needs help with moving expenses, bills, and general survival. She needs help with uncovered medical costs for her surgery.

You can make the difference in not only Neva's life, but the lives of her two children. Her son, who will be a senior in high school in the Fall has a job and helps as much as he can. He plans on attending UND and UND school of law after high school. Her daughter, who will be a junior in high school in the Fall has medical issues of her own, but she's a trooper and helps her mom with keeping up the house, cooking, and taking care of the dog. She also plans to attend college after high school. She's still deciding.

Neva didn't expect this to happen. It just did. Life has a funny way of challenging us in some of our most vulnerable moments. If you can help with any amount, Neva is the type of person who will pay it forward for the rest of her life.

Please consider giving what you can today, to make a difference in Neva's tomorrow. Thank you.
