New Mom Kristen McMullen Lost Her Fight w COVID

Thank you for taking the time to read Kristen's story. My name is Melissa Syverson (Kristen's Aunt) and I've put this fundraiser together to help Kristen, her husband Keith, and new baby Summer Reign McMullen with the financial burden they're currently in the middle of due to COVID-19.

Kristen dreamed of being a mom and after several years of fighting an uphill battle, her and her husband Keith, received the good news that they were expecting. This bundle of joy is the first great grandchild in the family and we couldn't have been happier for her and her little growing family. With approximately 5 weeks left, we gave her an amazing baby shower to celebrate the upcoming addition.

About 3 weeks prior to her due date, Kristen started developing COVID-19 symptoms. Things progressed quickly and she ended up in the hospital with an official "positive" test as well as confirmation of having COVID pneumonia. She was in the hospital for 4 days at this point and was sent home with antibiotics. After less than 48 hours she returned to the hospital not able to breath and worried about her unborn baby. Her husband Keith wasn't allowed to enter the hospital at the time and a few short hours later received a heart wrenching call that he needed to come to the hospital ASAP due to baby and mama not doing well. I can only imagine what was running through his mind at the time. Keith waited almost 2 hours while they did an emergency c-section and was able to see his wife and their new addition, Summer Reign. Kristen was able to hold her baby girl for a few short minutes before she was rushed off to ICU. Keith did an amazing job being a new dad and caring for Summer while she was in the hospital.

Kristen has now been in ICU since July 27th. We are all praying for a miracle but at this point she has a long road to recovery. We're being told that she has a long way to go with an unknown amount of time in ICU. Kristen is on 100% oxygen with an additional CPAP machine and almost went on a ventilator yesterday. The doctors are re-evaluating her situation by the minute and have cut off communication between Kristen and our family at this point because of her condition. Kristen was able to watch the baby through facetime up until a few days a go.

This young family is facing a large amount of unknown medical expenses. Unfortunately Kristen does not have short or long term disability and will not be getting any type of compensation while out of work during her recovery. I'm helping to raise money to cover her medical expenses, monthly bills including rent, car payment, insurance, monthly expenses and everything that comes with having a new baby. Kristen's husband has taken a second job to try to cover some of their living expenses but without Kristen's income and with the other financial burdens they need our help.
