Help Nicholas fight cancer post liver transplant

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kerren and I have started this GoFundMe to support Elena Reed as she fights to save her son Nicholas.

Six year old Nicholas had a liver transplant at 5 months of age, and has just been diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive type of post transplant cancer. This is absolutely devastating news for the 'Team Nicholas' community who has followed Elena's journey and the many health challenges Nicholas has faced throughout his young life.

Nicholas has battled harder his short life than most of us will ever deal need to - invasive procedures and surgeries, hundreds of blood tests, sepsis, intensive care admissions, immunodeficiency and now cancer. He is brave and he is fighting, but he needs his mum.

Elena is the first person to step up to help others but the last to ask for help herself. I first met her through a random Facebook post as she was fundraising to buy equipment for the liver unit at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. Our crossing paths resulted in an incredible donation of a Fibroscan valued at close to $200,000. This life-changing machine means liver kids can be assessed non-invasively in around five minutes. This is what she does - finds the things that need fixing and does what she can to raise awareness and funds to help other liver families and our health services.

This latest diagnosis has rocked Elena to her core and she desperately needs our help even though she won't ask. So I'm being the voice for her in the hope that we can rally together and take away some of the strain so she can focus on her family. As a single mum to three young boys, this diagnosis comes on top of an already difficult year. Working is impossible as she supports Nicholas and his brothers through this unimaginably distressing situation, and as the sole parent debts are piling up, creating even more stress.

The prognosis for Nicholas is unclear at this stage. The cancer has spread through his stomach, lungs, shoulder and kidney and he started chemotherapy this week. He will need his mum by his side! Treatment could be as long as 1-3 years but at the moment Elena is trying to take it day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute.

Every donation, no matter how small, will help ease the strain for Elena and give her and her boys the precious gift of time together without having to worry about losing their home. Funds will go directly to Elena to support her and her family at this unimaginably challenging time.

Thank you and please share if you can.
