Help Nicole and her family make precious memories

As you may know, Nicole was diagnosed with Cervical cancer back in 2017, at 32 years of age. Since then, Nicole’s life has largely been overshadowed by this merciless disease. Guided by the wonderful team at The Christie, she has undergone all the recommended treatments over the past five years including several radiotherapies and a huge surgical procedure that required a stay in the ICU afterwards.
Despite all of this, sadly the cancer has recurred and advanced to other areas, namely the wider pelvic area, lymph nodes and lungs. Last year, Nicole received the devastating news that her cancer is now deemed incurable, with any further treatment being for management purposes only. Doctors have advised the aim is now to extend Nicole as much precious time as possible, for as long as possible.
With this news in mind, you may be aware that Nicole recently completed a six-round course of chemotherapy. The half-way point scan showed that the treatment has thankfully been successful in stabilising the cancer, meaning that it has neither shrunk nor grown, which is the best result we could have hoped for at this time.
It’s hard to put into words what Nicole has been through physically and mentally and how incredible her strength and endurance has been in her ongoing fight for survival. This horrible illness has cruelly robbed the life she knew before and she has had to sacrifice so much that others are fortunate enough to take for granted – her much loved job at William Hill, driving, a hard-won university placement and quality time with her children and little grandson to name just a few.
Physically she has suffered badly from extreme side effects caused by her treatment – hair loss and the use of one leg just to name a couple. Nicole has also had to endure numerous admissions to hospital because of scary complications from her treatment. Aside from all of this, Nicole has also suffered a lot of personal heartache during this time, with the devastating loss of her best friend Clare, her beloved pet dogs Milo and Bella and her dad. It would be so easy for Nicole to give up, but she continues to face each day with a positive attitude and is determined to live the best life that she can.
Throughout her five-year battle, Nicole has been, and continues to be an inspiration. She has remained her positive, funny, caring self and has been determined to beat this horrible illness. She is brave, strong, selfless and is always doing things to make other people smile. She has taken her own devastating experience and tries to turn this into good by raising awareness of this horrible disease.
Nicole’s favourite thing to do is to make memories with her family. Nicole would never do this for herself so as a family, we would love to support her in her courageous battle by raising money so that along with her partner Gary, Nicole can create more wonderful memories with their two children, James and Jack and young grandson, Chase.
Inspired by Nicole’s love of Disney, we have decided to kick off our fundraiser with a walk to cover the distance from Manchester to Disneyland Paris – a total of just over 524 miles. In true Nicole style, she will also be joining us and helping us get those miles in!
Donations of any size would be gratefully received and will help Nicole and her family create special memories. With the future being uncertain those memories would mean the world.
We will be doing additional fundraisers so we will keep this page updated with all the details.
