Nicole Homan Mojica - help her fight Stage 4 Rectal Cancer

At 31 years old, Nicole received the devastating diagnosis of Stage 3 Rectal Cancer.  The wife and mother of three was shocked despite the family history of the disease.  Nicole lost her father at the age of 41 to this insidious disease. Rectal cancer is rare at Nicole’s young age.

Nicole is married to her best friend, Luis.  They have three wonderful children, Seth, 15 years old, Alex, 13 years old and Briana, 10 years old.  Nicole is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, she loves football.  Luis is her rock and researches healthy nutrition for Nicole to help her remain strong for the battles that she faces daily.  In addition to researching healthy nutrition, Luis is the sole breadwinner for the family of 5.  Nicole has been unable to work due to her health.

Cancer is not the only medical diagnosis faced by Nicole.  In 2013 she was diagnosed with Chiara Malformation 1, a rare structural abnormality of the cerebellum.  Two rods were placed in her back to provide decompression of the point where the skull meet the spine.  So far this surgery has been successful.

Nicole’s journey has not been easy since her Cancer diagnosis July 10, 2019. The first surgery was completed July 2019 and resulted in a colostomy, then began 30 days of chemotherapy.  That first round of chemo ended September 2019.

A second surgery was scheduled for November 2019 to remove the tumor.  The predicted 5-to-6-hour surgery ended after 14.5 hours.  At that time, it was found the cancer had metastasized and spread to her vaginal walls.  Surgery was scheduled for a complete hysterectomy, including ovaries.

As a result of these surgeries, Nicole experienced horrible pain in her abdomen.  Her nerves were contracting and causing unimaginable pain.  Nicole had emergency surgery to dilate the areas causing the pain.  This surgery helped significantly.

A second round of chemotherapy began January 2020, ending in August 2020. In the middle of this round of chemo, Nicole quit the regimen but returned to complete the course of medication.  It was too hard for her, as due to Covid-19 all of her appointments had to be attended solo.  She could not have a companion to keep her company or distract her from the realities of her disease and treatment.

In the midst of all of the cancer surgeries and treatments, Nicole required a stent in her right kidney due to the formation of kidney stones.  Another stent was placed in her left kidney March 2021.

February 2021 arrived with another setback, the cancer had spread once again, this time to her lungs. Nicole had surgery to remove the lung nodules.  Unfortunately, within two weeks after the surgery a CT scan showed nodules continuing to grow at a rapid pace.  Nicole will return to a new chemotherapy regimen in the next few weeks.

Nicole faces her diagnoses with a brave and cheerful demeanor.  All donations large or small are a huge help.  Please donate today toward medical and household bills. Any help is greatly appreciated to ease the financial burdens of this family of 5.  Nicole should not have to worry about anything except the FIGHT OF HER LIFE!
