Hello, my name is Nii Aponsah Ankrah, and your help will be greatly needed for me to be able to attend university this year
I have a confirmed offer to study medicine at the American University of St. Vincent School of Medicine. I want to dedicate my life to the study and practice of medicine and work on research projects that can help support the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases, thereby making a difference in people’s lives, with my focus being on Cardiology. The only way I would achieve this is by going to medical school, so it is so important that I can find the funds I need to do so.
After completing my first degree in Psychology, and a few years of work, I have been working and trying to find an opportunity to make this dream a reality. Unfortunately, numerous inquiries, applications, and attempts to get medical school admission both home and abroad have been met with financial blockades.
However, recently, one of my applications came back successful but with the same financial blockade. The financial burden that comes with this makes me uncertain about my ability to accept this admission. This uncertainty may force me to withdraw as the funds required for tuition, textbooks, other materials, and accommodation are out of my and my family’s financial might.
I come from a household of 6 with my widowed mother supporting us, and others attend school. Meanwhile, I have been trying to alleviate her burden by selling replica football jerseys and the odd writing jobs here and there. Given this, I understand that it will be challenging for me to achieve enough self-funding and attend university while supporting my mother caters to my younger siblings and the various utility bills. I do not want to saddle my mother, who works tirelessly to help my younger siblings through school, with extra responsibility.
To keep me busy over the past few years, I have had the chance to observe and volunteer at the Triage and Psychology Centre of Greater Accra Regional Hospital till the COVID-19 pandemic. This allowed me to gain knowledge and experience about medicine while helping my society and country.
With your donations and assistance, I would be able to overcome the background and financial situations and become an asset to God, my country, and the world as a whole.
