Help Niki Beat Breast Cancer

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read this. The past year has been challenging for so many but unfortunately for our dear friend Niki, it has also brought the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer.
Niki, 35, is the best mother and step-mother, loving wife to a Veteran and local Detective, beloved daughter, caring sister and loyal friend. Unfortunately, Niki is not a stranger to breast cancer. Niki has a significant family history and in 2012, lost her older sister Catrina after her two year battle with cancer. After Catrina was diagnosed, Niki decided to get genetic testing done for the BRCA gene mutation. When the results came back, Niki tested positive for the BRCA1. With this knowledge, the looming thought that cancer could be a reality in her near future lingered in the back of her mind. This solidified her decision to have a preventative double mastectomy to direct implant surgery in Yonkers, NY by cutting edge surgeons. What some might consider as a radical decision, reduced her chances of getting breast cancer from 87 percent to 5 percent. Niki sought out previvor groups for support and quickly became an advocate and leader to others who also carry the gene. She went on to become a spokesperson for Myriad Genetics, traveling and telling her story of strength and loss. Her grace and transparency regarding this disease is inspiring to so many.
In February of 2021, after a routine self breast exam, Niki found a lump on her right breast. Even though Niki had taken every precaution, sadly the biopsy and ultrasound confirmed a 2.2 cm tumor, stage 2 cancer. Niki has gone through numerous tests to determine a treatment plan. This will require 8 rounds of chemotherapy over 16 weeks with multiple surgeries and finishing with radiation treatment.
As her family and friends, we are asking for assistance to ease the burden of medical bills, lost wages, purchasing a cold cap (used to prevent or reduce hair loss during chemotherapy), wigs, and other costs associated with cancer treatment. We would like to help Niki and her family focus on recovery and not worry about financial hardships. Niki is one of the strongest women we know and would never ask for help. Her family and friends are springing into action to take care of her and her family as she has compassionately taken care of others in the past. Please consider a donation of any amount to this beautiful family. Thank you.
