Sierra Moniquely "Nikka" Antonio -- Personal Blog of Nikka
Nikka is our niece, cousin, friend, and more.
- Nikka on a recent trip in February 2021
Nikka is currently living in the Philippines and is in urgent need of financial assistance to begin immediate chemotherapy treatment for Stage 3C cancer. This treatment will help to prolong Nikka's life and to hopefully eradicate the cancer entirely.
Nikka already survived Stage 3 Endometrial Cancer, but she lives with a genetic predisposition commonly known as Lynch Syndrome. Unfortunately, Lynch Syndrome makes it much more likely for someone to get a myriad of cancers such as colon cancer and cancer of the female reproductive system.
- Nikka with her Oncology team after successfully treating the Endometrial Cancer
As you can imagine, this has been extremely difficult for Nikka. Yet through it all, Nikka is still a hopeful beam of sunshine. Her family and friends from around the globe love her and have been supporting her. Now it is urgent that we band together to assist her any way possible, but there is another significant obstacle that you can help her overcome.
The Filipino medical system requires patients to pay up front before receiving medical treatment. In many other countries there is some form of option to be insured either privately or through a government-assisted program. This is not the case in the Philippines. It is wholly a for-profit medical system, and this is where assistance is needed. Nikka's maternal grandmother and aunts have also suffered through cancer and beat the disease, but they were afforded consistent medical opportunities due to their living in developed nations such as the United States, Sweden, and New Zealand. All we are asking for is that Nikka is given the same consistent medical opportunities, but because of the nuances of the Filipino healthcare system, what is desperately needed is money to pay for the surmounting medical costs.
Nikka's parents, Randy and Lily, as well as her husband Martijn de Roos and countless family members have been depleting their own resources. The costs are adding up, and we want Nikka to receive the best care possible as quickly as possible.
- Nikka and her husband Martijn, who has lost a lot of weight since this photo was taken, and now wears a size L. He is a Covid-19 survivor!
Please, consider donating to this fund. Nikka's aunt Monica will be handling the finances and directly sending all assistance to Nikka. Each round of chemotherapy costs roughly $1600 US dollars, and Nikka needs a minimum of 6. There is also the need to consider the costs of other medical needs such as paying for a room in a hospital, CT scans, diagnostic procedures, prescriptions, outpatient care, etc. You can see how all of this adds up quickly.
We want Nikka to have many more cancer-free years just like the other strong women in her family. To do this, we need your help.
Please do what you can to help -- donate, spread this GoFundMe, or keep Nikka in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much!
