Help Nina Fight ALS: Support for Treatment & Care
Donation protected
Nina Wilcox, wife of John and mother to two college students, Luke and Becca, was diagnosed with ALS in January 2024. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neurodegenerative condition that has deeply affected her life and her family. Despite this diagnosis, Nina is determined to fight, focusing on stopping the progression of the disease.
Nina has been working with top doctors in the Northeast, exploring conventional treatments. However, knowing there is no current cure for ALS, she has chosen alternative therapies that align with her goal of halting its advancement. For Nina, this fight is about more than managing ALS—it’s about actively changing the course of her future.
The average annual cost for ALS patients is approximately $143,000, according to the American Life Fund, and insurance doesn’t cover even close to enough. As Nina and John transition from two incomes to one, they need the help of their community to get through this difficult time.
Please consider donating and sharing this page. Your generosity will help ensure that Nina has access to the care she needs.
Nina’s Own Words
1) What has been the hardest part of facing ALS, both physically and emotionally?
“Physically, everything is harder and takes more time. Emotionally, it’s a rollercoaster.”
2) When things feel overwhelming, what helps you stay strong?
“Reading stories of people who have healed from terminal illnesses. It is a constant reminder that I can do this. Healing ALS (online group) has also been an amazing resource. It connects people worldwide who are fighting this disease, and we all share the same mindset—hope, determination, and a refusal to give up.”
3) How do you want to spend the next 12 months?
“I want to dedicate the next year to stopping this disease and focusing on healing.”
4) What does the support from your community mean to you?
“It means everything. I’m grateful that people are willing to support me on my terms.”
5) How can friends and loved ones help?
“Financially, and by believing in my fight.”
6) What’s the best way for them to communicate and offer support?
“Text me—positivity only, no pity.”
7) If there’s one thing you want people to know about your journey, what would it be?
“Believe in me! I see a future where I’m alive and healthy, helping others navigate a devastating diagnosis like ALS.”
