I am a 47-year-old woman and mother who has struggled with physical and mental health for over 15 years. It is not easy for me to reach out for help; therefore, many people have not known the extent of my struggle. It feels vulnerable to open up publicly, but I have reached a point where I need your help to heal.

I am an artistic soul who has spent years professionally supporting others in their health. I love music, art, dance, nature, energy work, and meditation. My fascination with learning and holistic health led me on a path of thinking that I could heal my mysterious and debilitating health issues on my own after Western doctors failed to help me or diagnose them correctly. Perplexing health issues began to surface as a young child, but these were often chalked up to the trauma I experienced in early life. Complicated by the relationship within my primary family, I began believing something was inherently wrong with me. Thus, I started my "secret journey" of managing a high-maintenance health issue by changing what was "wrong with me," which did not work and left me alone and depressed.

2016 was the year my health started to decline in a debilitating way, and I had issues maintaining a consistent work schedule. It turns out that I was living with black mold caused by an ongoing water leak from 2016-2022. I discovered this too late, and it took another seven months to move. The place I moved to and live now had mold, but we remediated and currently do not know of any severe water-damaged material or leak. I have the HLA-DRB1 gene which makes me extremely sensitive to water-damaged material and mold.

Fifteen months ago, my health declined drastically, eventually leading to my inability to work. I went into debt with expensive medical testing that insurance doesn’t cover and worked with a Lyme & Mold Specialist whose services cost over $500 monthly. While this testing and treatment were beneficial, I couldn't afford to continue it after my credit cards were maxed out within a few months. Now, I am filing for bankruptcy for the second time in my life due to health issues, and for the second time in 15 years, I have applied for disability and have been denied it. I’ve had to find a lawyer to take my case, and we’re currently in the process of appealing the recent disability denial.

I have a long list of symptoms that cause me to feel like I have the flu daily. It often takes me half the day to reach a point where I can function mentally and physically at about 50%, and I'm lucky if I have a couple of hours per day when I have enough energy to perform daily living tasks. The exhaustion, depression, anxiety, insomnia, memory loss, pain, and brain fog makes it a challenge to feel like I am moving forward in life.

My health condition has also affected my relationships, including the one with my partner of eleven years. As of late, this person has been supporting me with basics like food, bills, and shelter, and I do not know what I would do without him. My illness and dependence on him have stressed our relationship to the point where we are unsure if we will stay together. To put it plainly, I am without the energy and money it takes to maintain a semi-balanced existence. It has become clear that it is paramount for me to ask for help to get the assistance I need to heal, recover my life, and hopefully experience wellness in my later years.
