Help Nissa start a new career!

Hi everyone! My name's Nissa and I'm fundraising so that I can take the "Bookkeeping for Small Business" program at the University of the Fraser Valley.

 

A little history behind me starting a new career...

 

I've been a Licensed Practical Nurse for eight years after graduating with my Practical Nursing Diploma in 2014 at the University of the Fraser Valley. Throughout my nursing career, I worked in various settings such as the Emergency Room, Med/Surg, Corrections, and Long-Term Care. For most of the pandemic, I worked on covid/infectious disease units.

 

In November of 2021, I was terminated from the Health Authority I was employed with due to making a personal medical decision that did not align with the mandatory Provincial Health Orders. This left me jobless and unable to claim EI - yet I still had a mortgage and other bills that needed to be paid.

 

And so I started my own private Home Care company. This way, I can still care for others and do what I love. But, although I have a few regular clients (which I will continue to care for), it is not enough to make ends meet. Which brought me to brainstorm about what new career path would be the perfect fit for me.

 

Math was always my favourite subject in school. If anyone knows me, you know I'm exceptionally organized and detail orientated, good at prioritizing, making efficient charts and lists, and multi-tasking. I've learned from starting my Home Care business that I enjoy being my own boss. And in the Northern BC community I live in, numerous small businesses exist.

 

Thus, the perfect new career path for me is to become a Bookkeeper! I'll be able to achieve this with the help of your donations which will go towards the tuition of the "Bookkeeping for Small Business" program at the University of the Fraser Valley, which starts in September 2022.
