In Memory of Noel Buan
Hello, my name is Dana Rose Buan and my family and I would really appreciate your help. My father-in-law, Noel Buan, is currently in critical condition at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Philippines (Taguig) due to COVID-19. Noel is a father of 4 and grandfather (“Lolo”) of 4 boys. Noel has been working since he was 9 years old to help out his parents and his 6 other siblings. At 22 years old, he made the difficult decision to leave his eldest son Nino (NJ) behind in the Philippines to move to the U.S. in search of a better life for his family. From 1986 – 2014, he provided not only for his 4 kids and wife, but helped out his parents and siblings. He moved back to the Philippines in 2014 to do what he loves most – teach music to children in his community. Noel and his sister Ethel have been active in giving back to the community over the past few years. He has always been so generous but now, Noel needs our help.
Currently, Noel is intubated and has been on a ventilator for the last 14 days. The doctors are keeping him in a medically-induced coma to allow his lungs the chance to heal. His oxygen level has been going up and down and his lungs are only showing slight improvement. We were just informed that he needs a tracheotomy.
While St. Luke’s has been providing exceptional care, it has come at a significant cost for the Buan family. Because Noel is in the ICU, the cost of his care is about $20k per week (1 million pesos) which does not include the doctor’s fees of $10k a week. There are 5 different doctors treating Noel. Unlike the U.S., a payment is required every week and if we do not pay, Noel cannot stay in the hospital.
So far, with the help of family and friends, we have been able to pay for Noel’s medical expenses for the last 2 weeks. However, we do not have enough to cover his medical expenses moving forward. His care at St. Luke’s is an ongoing expense and based on what the doctors stated, Noel may be in the hospital for 2 or more months. We kindly ask for your help to ensure that Noel continues to receive the medical care he so desperately needs. Whether by donating or sharing this post and helping us raise awareness, it would be so greatly appreciated by our entire family and friends.
Please continue to keep Noel in your prayers!
