Help Oakland Neighbors Find a Home
Oakland Family Needs Your Help to Escape Landlord's Violent Harassment
The Bay Area is in the midst of a housing crisis. But rather than debate the causes or solutions, please take a moment to consider the victims of this crisis.
Victims who are your neighbors. Victims who don't have the resources to protect themselves from threatening, predatory and violent landlords. Victims like this family* in East Oakland.
KPIX CBS News Report: "Oakland Landlord Accused Of Using Violence To Force Family To Leave" - By Da Lin - September 18, 2015
As you can see from the KPIX segment by Da Lin, our Oakland neighbors are terrified. They've been harassed and threatened. They weep openly and fear for their children.
Their rental home was sold recently and the new landlord refuses to accept their rent check, harasses them about moving, and shouts verbal insults. Recently, the landlord slammed the unit's metal security door, injuring their toddler.
This story is all too common. Immigrant families like these neighbors bear the brunt of our housing crisis. They are unjustly at the mercy of landlords or employers who take advantage of them and their situation.
We are all Oaklanders.
We are all Oaklanders, regardless of our origins. Oakland has long been a home for immigrants. East Oakland is one of the most diverse and integrated communities in the US. We must help and protect each other.
This campaign is organized by a group of volunteers who want to help this family resettle in a new safer home. Will you join us and help Oakland neighbors, too?
You can help Oakland neighbors, too.
