Help OCRA feed Orange County seniors in need!

OCRA is a Meals on Wheels program in northern Orange County, NC. OCRA’s senior clients live miles from the nearest grocery stores, and many live alone, resulting in extreme hardship during the current pandemic.
OCRA has stepped up to help, but their resources are draining at a time when their clients need help more than ever. We are raising money to cover two month’s worth of food and operating expenses, so that OCRA can keep providing meals to our elder neighbors in need.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the seniors that OCRA serves are suffering greatly and need the OCRA lifeline now more than ever. Social distancing and stay-at-home orders have stopped many seniors’ families from visiting them as often with food. OCRA has stepped in to fill this need, now delivering five meals a week instead of their normal two, despite the huge strain on their finances.
In addition, OCRA’s entire process of receiving food and delivering meals has been disrupted. The local restaurants and organizations that previously donated meals have closed, and OCRA is scrambling to pay for frozen replacement meals. In addition, many of OCRA’s volunteers are themselves over age 70 and at higher risk for Covid-19, forcing many to stay home to protect their own health.
At this time of greatest need, OCRA now has huge expenses and fewer volunteers. OCRA is in desperate need of funding if they are to continue serving the at-risk seniors of Orange County.
"We will continue until we go broke," says OCRA director Norma White. "Literally."
Any donation you can make will go directly towards helping a senior. OCRA needs $8,000 a month to continue operating at their current level. This covers five frozen meals a week for each of their 80 to 85 clients, as well as OCRA’S rent and utilities costs.
$5 – pays for 1 meal
$25 – one week of meals for one person
$50 – one week of meals for two people
$200 – one week of meals for eight people
$500 – one week of meals for 20 people
$1000 – one week of meals for 40 people
