Help Ode go to Milano

My name is Ode and I am a multidisciplinary Brazilian artist based in Brazil, who works with the realms of directing, styling, writing and curating, winner of the Latin American Fashion Awards for Fashion Film of the Year with the short film Divina. The film pays homage to the story of Marcinha do Corintho, a legendary Brazilian travesti who rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s on television, until she became an iconic figure in our country's and global queer culture.
Across Divina’s three chapters – which allude to the bible verse John 14:6, The Way, The Truth and The Life – I present do Corintho in a way that stands against the usual rhetorics associated with the travesti identity. I covered Marcinha in iconographies of saints and Pomba Giras as a way to bring up the issue of how it’s common to see images of travestis and trans women in the news being beaten up, killed, and demonised. I wanted to explore a different narrative: to show that travestis can be alive, grow old, leave a legacy, be victorious, and be seen as sacred.
Among actions that celebrate, promote and support the growth of the winners' careers, one of the prizes of the Latin American Fashion Awards is to take part in a group exhibition throughout Milano Fashion Week by Fashion Hub and Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana at Palazzo Giureconsulti, a major opportunity for visibility and business development in the most prestigious setting of Milano. However, the awards will not cover the expenses for travel, accomodation and meals.
For this reason, I decided to do this crowdfunding to cover these expenses and be present in Milano for the exhibition, other awards events and works that are coming up with the possibility of me being in the city during these days.
