Help Officer Porter and Family
Hi, my name is Wendy Kang, a fellow Duluth Police Officer's wife, and I would love to show some love and support to Officer Porter and his family. Ricky Porter, is a 12-year veteran officer, who sustained significant injuries following a serious crash on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at approximately 4:19 a.m. He was on routine patrol on Peachtree Industrial Blvd, approaching Abbotts Bridge Road in his marked patrol vehicle. The officer entered the intersection of Abbotts Bridge Road and was struck by another vehicle traveling East on Abbotts Bridge Road, that failed to stop at the red light.
Duluth officers and the Gwinnett County Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated the unconscious officer from his patrol vehicle. Officer Porter was then transported to a local hospital.
The other driver fled the scene on-foot and an extensive search followed. Hours later, Duluth officers located and arrested the suspect.
Officer Porter sustained significant injuries and remains critically injured, but in stable condition at a local hospital.
Due to the extensive injuries Officer Porter will need extended care and rehabilitation that will no doubt be a long road to recovery for he and his family. While medical expenses are being taken care of by City of Duluth insurance and Officer Porter's regular pay will continue during his recovery, there are additional expenses the family will encounter to provide proper care for Officer Porter and his children.
Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for the support of Officer Porter and his family!
