Help Olive Walk Again – Support Dustin & His Sweet Pup Through Recovery

This is a plea from the heart for my best friend Dustin and his beloved puppy, Olive. Olive is a spirited, loving dog who means the absolute world to Dustin. She was recently diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a heartbreaking condition that caused sudden paralysis in her back legs. The only hope of giving her a chance to walk again was through emergency spinal surgery—a procedure that came with a steep price tag of nearly $15,000.

Dustin didn’t hesitate for a second. He would do anything for Olive. She’s more than just a pet—she’s his constant companion, his source of comfort, and his light during some of the darkest days of his life.

Unfortunately, even after the surgery, Olive has not yet regained the use of her hind legs. It’s been over a month, and while her veterinarian remains hopeful that physical therapy will bring success, nothing is guaranteed. What is guaranteed, however, are the mounting costs: therapy, follow-up appointments, at-home care, special equipment, and medications.

All of this comes at a time when Dustin is carrying more than any one person should. Earlier this year, he lost his father to cancer, a devastating blow that he’s still grappling with. Shortly after, Dustin battled a series of severe illnesses—COVID, followed by the flu, and then pneumonia—which landed him in and out of hospitals for weeks.

Just as he began to regain his footing, the breaker box in the home he just moved into needs to be replaced, adding yet another unexpected cost to the growing list. And while health insurance will cover a portion of his own major surgery—which is needed to treat a serious acid reflux condition that could develop into cancer—when combined with the medical bills already incurred earlier this year, the financial strain is becoming overwhelming.

But even with everything life has thrown his way, Dustin’s number one focus has been Olive. Her recovery, her comfort, her future.
