Help Oliver Wickwire and family

Hello, my name is Dylan Wickwire, my son Oliver was born through a ruptured uterus while attempting a VBAC and had to be resuscitated within a minute after birth. What does that mean for him? Well currently he is experiencing Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) which means he has lack of oxygen restricting blood flow to the brain. He currently is in the NICU here in Iowa city undergoing a cooling process where he has his body temperature dropped by 3 degrees to stop the swelling of the brain. after 3 days of this they will warm his body temperature up and do an MRI to assess the damage and what it means for him long term.

When Oliver was born his mother Elizabeth was attempting to VBAC (vagina birth after c section) since she had previous c sections for our two older children it means she still had scar tissue on her uterus. April 27th when her we went into the hospital to attempt this it was going as planned until about 7:30 when even through an epidural she had a sharp pain, tons of doctors rushed in and said they had a breach birth so they needed to set up for a C section which isn't what we were here to do but I'm glad they went for it, as they were taking her to the OR they realized she had a uteran rupture meaning that baby Oliver was essentially swimming inside of her but outside of the placenta and uterus, so they performed an insanely fast c section saving both her and Oliver's life most likely by seconds. The problem is that her uterus was destroyed so they had to perform a historectomy on her taking her uterus and cervix with it. This has lead to a pretty hard recovery and unfortunately we are being discharged on 4/30 (unless they change their minds and maybe give us one more day) While Oliver stays here for an unspecified amount of time (I will update when I know)

This is where I describe why I started this gofundme. We currently reside 2.5 hours away from the hospital and I'm currently the only one working to pay the bills and such, with Oliver being this far away and us needing to make sure we advocate for Him, make it to his appointments and start working on the things that normally would happen right when a child is born it's going to take every single resource that we can expend. We have amazing help from my parents watching the older kids and taking care of our pets for us while we are away, currently we are applying for assistance through government grants and through the social worker here at the hospital for maybe finding us cheap housing while we try and care for Oliver as he claws his way through the medical system and finally into our home. I'm not really sure what else to do or where to ask for help and this was one of the hardest things I've ever had to personally type so if you made it this far or decided to share or donate before you read this far I appreciate you far more than words could ever describe. Thank you- Dylan Wickwire
