As many may know, Olivia tested positive with Covid-19 July 11, 2021. Having the typical course of symptoms, she rallied back to feeling better and was released to return to work as a local cosmetologist on July 19th. Then, on Saturday the 23rd, she didn’t feel well and was fatigued. The next day her arms became severely swollen and she was unable to move her arms or grasp. This sent her to convenient care with a retest of COVID (negative) and antibiotics for an ear infection.

Monday she had no improvement and went to the ER and had a CT ordered with contrast. Her vein blew due to being so swollen. She was sent home on a blood thinner and referred to specialist that wasn’t able to see her until August 12th.

After reaching out, Olivia was able to be seen by a doctor on Thursday. The doctor then immediately sent Olivia to Deaconess Gateway for a CT. Within an hour, two surgeons had reviewed it and sent Olivia directly to the ER.

Finally, her diagnosis:

Olivia had 100% blockage from a blood clot in her superior vena cava (a large vein in her heart).

The plan:

First, the doctors wanted to transfer Olivia to a University because her case was very rare. The transfer was unable to happen due to no beds being available and her condition.

The alternative was to transfer her (by ambulance) to Deaconess midtown on Friday and perform a cardiac catheterization Saturday morning. The vascular surgeon placed catheters in each arm from her elbow to her heart. Olivia also had multiple blood clots in her arms that were found during the procedure. Then Olivia was sent to the ICU to have a special medication administered and an ultrasonic treatment through the catheters in her arms to break up the multiple blood clots that had formed. After 48 hours in the ICU they took her back to the cath lab. They confirmed that all blood clots were gone, even the clot in her heart. Her catheter tubes were removed from her arms and she was sent to a regular room to be observed for the next few days.

She was released from the hospital on Tuesday, August 3rd. She will recover at home until she is able to return to work.

Olivia has been out of work as a local cosmetologist since July 11th.

Please help in any way with Olivia’s medical expenses, which include tests, specialists, an ICU stay, ambulance, medications and loss of wages.
