Help Olivia regain her full vision
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Pamela and I am fundraising for my daughter Olivia. She had an accident almost 2 months ago where she got a severe chemical burn in her left eye while attempting to dye her hair. The tube containing the hair color developer exploded when she was trying to apply it due to the tube not being punctured properly. It went right into her eye leaving it in this condition. She has currently lost full vision in that eye due to scaring of the cornea. She has been through weeks and weeks of treatment with the ophthalmologist and at one point was told that her eye would heal on its own and she would never be able to tell anything happened. They were just treating her for a possible infection and for inflammation, like it was a regular chemical burn. They didn’t realize the severity of it, and now we know the skin of the cornea is growing back scarred and that is why she has lost her vision in that eye. She is currently under the care of a cornea specialist in Charleston SC that is taking a new approach on her treatment. We are very hopeful this new treatment will start to heal the cornea and we will see some progress, however our only other option will be a cornea transplant which is not a good option for someone her age. Our insurance is helping but we will still have to meet our deductibles in order for her to continue to receive the treatment that she needs. Along with a $90 copayment every visit to the specialist each week for her follow-ups and with gas prices the way they are its going to cost a lot of money to travel two hours from our home one to two days every week until they see enough improvement or deem a cornea transplant will be needed. My husband is the only one currently working and I am unable to work due to medical issues. We are asking for help with this because we are struggling to continue to pay for the treatment that she needs. This is the last thing I thought I would ever have to do, but there are no other options, and Olivia’s eye sight is the most IMPORTANT thing to me right now. Thank you in advance for all the support.
