Help Ollie Shannon with medical & other expenses
My name is Carol and our friend Ollie Shannon needs the help of their community, friends and caring strangers. It's not easy to ask for help especially in these times, however Ollie is unable to work and we have no idea how much the medical bills will be and they are in desperate need of help.
On June 10th, while visiting the Oregon coast, Ollie took a fall and the injuries were so severe they had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital in Portland, OR. The injuries included tearing all the ligaments in the left knee and an artery bypass in the lower leg due to an occlusion and compartment syndrome that led to a fasciotomy to save their lower leg from amputation. So far Ollie has had 7 surgeries and they still have at least 2 more to go.
This was supposed to be an exciting time for Ollie, they just finished up there M.A at Boise State University studying environmental impacts on mental health in the LGBTQIA+ communities in the Intermountain West. Ollie, was going to be headed to Washington State University this fall to do their PhD studies in the Evolutionary Anthropology track. They had received the honor of full scholarships and funding to be able to make this next step possible for them. Unfortunately, their fall and recovery has meant that WSU had to defer enrollment for a semester. This also means that Ollie lost her TA position which they have done for the past several years along with driving for door dash to cover the rest of their expenses. Prior to their academic career they have been and continue (when time permits) to be an organizer for social justice.
