Help Olympia Island Restore Clean Water
Donation protected
Hello friends and kind strangers,
I've just returned from volunteering with Silliman Water, a charity in the Philippines that gives clean water to people (and pets). A team at Silliman University in Dumaguete has designed a solar-powered water filtration unit that immediately purifies dirty water and makes it potable. This is life-changing for people who live in villages that city pipes do not reach. I was wowed by the simplicity of this solution and its massive impact on the lives of so many people, and I have been supporting them for five years (since I was 12) when I first raised $3k to fund an entire SolarPure unit. Many of you helped me achieve that goal; thank you!
The work and the need for clean water continue. Getting SolarPure units into villages and to disaster areas is critical. You would not believe how common it is for many people (and pets) to struggle to survive and stay well without clean water.
During my recent visit, I visited Olympia Island, where I met with Cuba, the Chairman of Barangay Village, to learn about their water challenges. Unfortunately, their SolarPure system stopped functioning. The culprit? Salt water contaminates caused a rusted-out steel pressure tank. This tank is vital for the community's access to clean water. Without it, the islanders are struggling to meet their daily water needs. To ensure a long-term solution, we must replace the rusted steel tank with a durable fiberglass version that won't succumb to rust.
The cost for this replacement tank is $350. This relatively small investment will have a considerable impact, quickly restoring access to clean water for the entire island, making them self-sufficient, and saving them from having to spend money they do not have on expensive jugs of clean water that must be imported from the mainland. At the same time, they also try to capture as much rainwater as possible.
Please consider donating to help the wonderful people of Olympia Island. Any amount you can give will bring us closer to our goal of providing the fiberglass tank and making a significant difference in this community's lives. Every dollar raised beyond the goal will go to SillimanWater to get clean water to other needy villages.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support!
