Help feed two idiots as they tour across Canada with a new play: ONE NIGHT ONLY
Hello! We are a new company based in Toronto, Ontario, and our new play is slated to tour to 7 Fringe Festivals across Canada this coming summer, from June to September, 2023. My name is Nicholas Eddie, I’m the writer of ONE NIGHT ONLY and the founder of duhdumduhdum productions. I have been immersed in the theatre world for the past 5 years, and have had the opportunity to work with a number of fantastic companies creating work in Toronto; regional Ontario; and Montreal—productions I have been a part of have received some accolades, including 12 Dora Mavor Moore award nominations, and 5 wins in the indie theatre category. In my spare time I’ve been nursing a personal project that has slowly consumed every part of my brain, and now populates every waking thought that I have. That project is ONE NIGHT ONLY. It is a story of a young person facing the potential perils of mental illness, and struggling with the paradoxical nature of his favourite coping mechanisms. But like… super fun. It has romps, and reverie, and dancing, and music written by me (like the music in the trailer, for example).
This project has turned out to be very ambitious, both creatively and logistically. The play is touring to 7 festivals in 7 cities in 2023: Montreal (June 8 – June 18); Ottawa (June 15 – 25); Toronto (July 5 – 16); Winnipeg (July 19 – 30); Kingston (August 3 – 13); London (August 20 - 27); and Halifax (August 31 – September 10). This is intimidating, but also has the potential to reach a great many people! Deaths of despair are on the rise in Canada, and maybe by opening up the convers- *band starts playing me off* the conversation to more people, we can help those who are in *band plays louder* WHO ARE IN THE MOST NEED OF OUR
We are seeking to fund many expenses that will have to be paid for as part of the tour. This includes food ($2880), accommodations ($4,367), and gas ($1,719). Because we are relying on ticket sales for the majority of our gross income, these upfront costs can be prohibitive and challenging to pay for. Your donations go a long way to making this project possible. Thank you.
Your donations also go to help the community at large, as 10% of all money raised will be donated to two organizations dedicated to mental health and mental illness: the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), and Talk Suicide Canada. The choice of these two organizations reflects a desire to support social structures that work to keep people from reaching a critical state, and provide the urgent assistance for those who have. This is the remaining $997 in our goal.
If you can’t donate but you would still like to contribute: in-kind donations are extremely welcome. If you know someone who lives in one of these cities and is able to offer a couch or a spare bedroom for one or both of us to rest our weary heads on, that is absolutely fantastic. If you live in one of these cities and want to feed us lunch, or have a can of beans you want to get rid of, that is stupendous. If you want to share this fundraiser on social media (1 million dollar value) our stage manager, Adrian, will fall in love with you, no questions asked.
This show has the opportunity to reach a lot of persons (for better or for worse). Help us get there, keep us nourished, and get us shelter.
Many thanks,
Nicholas Eddie
